News Releases 

Hill+Knowlton Strategies 

 

As a fellow for H+K, I collaborated with my colleagues to write or edit news releases for national and international clients in the mobility, transportation, health and non-profit sectors to build brand awareness or engagement. This news release is for a national health insurance company that wants to encourage its members to safeguard their physical and mental well-being during Hurricane Season. 

LSU Manship School of Mass Communication 

 

As a communications graduate assistant for the Manship School, I wrote news releases about the accomplishments of students, faculty, staff and alumni. This news release focuses on three Manship School students who earned scholarships for their academic achievement, mass communication career goals and community involvement.

MBP Consultants 

 

During my internship with MBP Consultants, I crafted news releases for our clients to inform their publics about events, projects, initiatives, work practice changes and product launches. This news release is for a national living history museum in New York. The museum wanted New Yorkers and residents in surrounding areas to attend its fall events while also experiencing activities provided all year round. The news outlet New York Almanack published an article that promoted Fall Homeschool Day and other events mentioned in the release.

Features 

LSU Manship School of Mass Communication 

 

While working at the Manship School, I wrote in-depth feature stories for the school's blog. The first feature story, which was also published in the print edition of LSU Research Magazine, is about the storytelling background and academic accomplishments of assistant professor Asha Winfield, Ph.D. The second story centers on the inspirations, work, pedagogy and mentorship of distinguished interracial communication researcher Tina M. Harris, Ph.D. The third story focuses on Rachel Mipro, an LSU alumna who earned a prestigious award for her LSU Cold Case Project Story about a 1960 racial injustice incident in Monroe, Louisiana.  

Newsletters  

LSU Manship School of Mass Communication 

 

I created copy and designed graphics for the Manship School's bi-weekly newsletter which is published and distributed via Constant Contact to over 8,000 contacts. The newsletter informs the school's publics about its students, , alumni, events, initiatives and more. 

Social Media 

Social media is an integral digital communication tool in the storytelling landscape.  I've had the opportunity to strengthen my social media writing skills while working at H+K, the Manship School, UN Women USA SFBA Chapter, LSU Academic Programs Abroad and DORLA. This is reflected below with the clients mentioned (left to right).

Report and Program  

LSU Manship School of Mass Communication 

 

I collaborated with my colleagues to complete the Manship School's 2021 — 2022 Annual Report. I oversaw the creation for the Graduate Program, Beyond the Classroom and Alumni Updates sections. I also drafted copy for some of the of Undergraduate Program section.

UN Women USA San Francisco Bay Area Chapter 

I worked with my colleagues to create a digital program for UN Women USA SFBA Chapter's fourth  Global Voices Film Festival (GVFF). The program informs the festival's attendees about the two-day live stream event, including its MC, panelists and musical guests. I wrote the welcome letter independently. 

Pitches 

Hill+Knowlton Strategies 

 

I collaborated with my colleagues at H+K to draft pitches for our clients for brand building and engagement purposes. This pitch is for a national health insurance company. The pitch asserted that the company's chief medical officer of Texas Medicaid has unique insight into how Texans can increase the low pediatric immunization rates among children in K-12.  I pitched the story idea to KTVT/CBS 11 reporter Kennedi Walker who took an interest in it. The story aired on July 27, 2023 in a 2:16-segment for the television station's morning news. 

UN Women USA San Francisco Bay Area Chapter   

 

I wrote pitches for local, national and international media outlets to engage the chapter's publics in UN Women USA SFBA Chapter's fourth GVFF. I tailored this pitch to international media outlets. The pitch piqued the interest of film critic Anna Mayers from the British news outlet Close-up Culture. She reviewed five of the 15 films, such as "Break the Silence: Right to Bleed With Dignity," giving them all positive reviews. A news release accompanies this pitch. MBP Consultants  

 

I helped MBP Consultants foster relationships with reporters, editors, influencers, event organizers and media outlets through tailored pitching. This strategy resulted in brand awareness for our clients. Below is a pitch I wrote for a corporate social responsibility athleisure brand. The purpose of this pitch is to promote a Mother's Day line the co-owners and siblings created with their mom while also letting her give advice to other mothers who want to support their child's entrepreneurial dreams. I pitched the story idea to podcasters which resulted in the mom getting a 26-minute interview with Real Happy Mom podcast host Toni-Ann Mayembe on Oct. 26, 2021. 

Coursework

Journalism Capstone Course

 

I wrote many stories for my undergraduate capstone course throughout the fall 2020 semester. This piece focuses on petrochemical pollution and its health effects in St. James Parish's predominantly Black district in Louisiana.

When I learned about the harm vaping can have on your physical health in my Social Norming and Vaping Behavior Change course, I decided to write a story about the issue. This piece covers the increase in e-cigarette use among young people in Louisiana.  

Visual Communication

For my Visual Communication course, I wrote and designed a magazine-style story about the process of pottery making. Specifically, the story centers on LSU Leisure Arts Studio which used to offer a pottery course for the LSU community and Baton Rouge residents. The studio is now closed.
